How to use the would you rather generator
A question appears as soon as the page loads. Each press of Next question picks a random question you haven’t seen yet; nothing repeats until you’ve gone through every question in your selection. Your seen list is remembered on this device, so next time you pick up with fresh questions.
All 340+ questions were written in-house and sorted into Funny, Love & dating, Food, Work, School, Family & friends, Hard choices and Kids. Tap several category chips to mix them, or All to draw from everything.
- Party mode: the full-screen button makes the text huge — perfect for a TV, projector or tablet. Landscape screens show A and B side by side; portrait screens stack them.
- Favorites: star the questions that got the best reactions. “Play favorites only” brings them back for your next game night, and you can copy the list to share.
- Share: save a question as a square image card for Instagram stories or group chats, or copy a link that opens on the same question.
- Keyboard shortcuts: ← / → to vote, Space for next, P to go back, F for party mode.
Group voting in the same room
When everyone is looking at one screen, each person taps the option they pick. Every tap adds a vote, and bars with percentages update instantly. Tapped by mistake? Undo last vote removes the most recent one.
Turn on Hide results while voting to show only how many people have voted. When everyone is done, tap Reveal results. People can’t follow the crowd, so answers are more honest — pass one phone around for a quick secret ballot.
Votes live only on your screen. They are not saved or sent anywhere; going back to a previous question shows its votes again until you close the page.
Ideas for parties, classrooms and team meetings
- Defend your pick: after each vote, someone in the minority explains their choice. It’s one of the easiest icebreakers for people who just met.
- Ten-second rule: give everyone ten seconds to decide. Fast picks are funnier and keep the game moving.
- Team play: split into teams and have each team guess which option the other team will pick. Use the team generator to split teams fairly.
- Pick the right categories: Work, Food and Funny for the office; Love and Hard choices for friends; Family & friends and Food for family gatherings.
- Classrooms: turn on Kids-safe mode and put party mode on the board. Count raised hands and tap the votes in, or let a group captain tap for their table.
Kids-safe mode and how questions are chosen
Every question is written to be tasteful: no sexual content, hate or graphic violence. Kids-safe mode goes further and only shows the Kids category plus questions in other categories that are marked as suitable for children. Love, Work and Hard choices are switched off automatically.
Use it for elementary classrooms, family road trips and kids’ birthday parties. The setting is remembered on this device.

How to write a good would you rather question
Add your own in Add your own questions using “A vs B”. Great questions split the room close to 50/50: both options are equally tempting or equally awkward. If one side is obviously better, the vote is over in a second.
Specific conditions (“for a year”, “forever”) make people think harder, and inside jokes — your office lunch spot, your class trip — get the biggest reactions. Avoid questions that single out or embarrass someone in the group.
FAQ
How many questions are there? What happens when I see them all?
There are 340+ original questions. When you’ve seen every question in your selection, you’ll get a notice and the selection reshuffles. Your own questions add to the pool.
Is it appropriate for kids?
Turn on Kids-safe mode to see only the Kids category and other questions marked as suitable for children. Love, Work and Hard choices are excluded.
Are votes saved anywhere?
No. Votes are counted on your screen only and disappear when you close the page. Nothing is sent to a server. To keep a result, save the image card — it includes percentages when there are votes.
Can I use my custom questions on another device?
Your questions and favorites are stored in this browser only. To move them, copy your favorites list as text, or share individual questions by link.
Full screen doesn’t work on my iPhone.
Safari on iPhone doesn’t allow part of a page to go full screen, so party mode covers the whole screen instead. Rotate to landscape or add the page to your home screen to hide the address bar.
Where do the questions come from?
Every question was written for this site; none were copied from other lists. Questions are kept free of sexual, hateful and violent content so everyone can play.
