How to use the spacebar counter
Pick a mode and press Space. The timer starts with your first press, which also counts.
- 5, 10, 30 or 60 seconds: press as fast as you can until time runs out. You get presses per second, total presses and the best one-second burst.
- Endless: a plain counter with no time limit. Press Stop when you are done; the best score is the total count.
- Space will not scroll the page while you play.
- On phones and tablets, tap the big button instead. Mouse clicks on a computer do not count.
- Results are saved in this browser. Share a result image or a challenge link.
Why holding the key does not count
When you hold a key, the operating system starts repeating it after a short delay, which is why holding a letter in a text editor types it again and again. Browsers mark these events as repeats. This counter discards every repeat and only counts real presses, so holding Space adds just one, and the result shows how many repeats were ignored.
Tips for a higher score
- Rest your wrist lightly and tap with the tip of your thumb or index finger.
- Alternating both thumbs is a popular technique; compare methods in the same mode.
- In 30 and 60-second modes, pace yourself. The graph shows where you slow down.
- Stop if your wrist or fingers hurt.
Spacebar double-registering or missing presses?
If one press adds two or fast presses get lost, the keyboard may be at fault. Long spacebars use stabilizers and can bind when pressed near the edge. Use the chatter detection in the keyboard tester to check whether Space registers twice.
FAQ
Does holding the spacebar count?
No. Auto-repeat from holding the key is ignored; only real presses count. The number of ignored repeats is shown with your result.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. Tap the big button. With a Bluetooth keyboard connected you can use its spacebar too.
Why don’t mouse clicks count?
This is a spacebar test, so only keyboard presses count on a computer. Try the CPS test for mouse click speed.
When does Endless mode end?
When you press Stop or leave the tab. The run is saved and compared by total presses.
Where are my scores stored?
Your last 50 runs are stored only in this browser. Share links contain just the score and mode.
