How to copy and paste text emoticons

Tap any emoticon to copy it, then paste it into a chat, comment, bio or game. Because kaomoji are plain text, they work anywhere you can type — no image keyboard or sticker pack required.

  • Pick a mood from the category row: happy, love, sad, angry, surprised, shy, animals and more.
  • Search by feeling or animal: “cry”, “bear”, “cat”, “shrug”, “table flip”.
  • Copied faces appear under Recent. Tap ☆ Favorite in the bottom bar to pin the ones you use most.
  • Use Compose to build a full message like “thank you (人´∀`*)” and copy it in one go.

What is kaomoji?

Western emoticons such as :) are read sideways. Japanese kaomoji (顔文字, “face characters”) are drawn upright, like (^_^), and borrow symbols from many writing systems for eyes (^ ◕ ಥ), mouths (▽ ω ᴗ) and arms (٩ و ノ). Korean chat adds its own style, using Hangul letters as faces: ㅠㅠ for tears, ㅎㅎ for a laugh, (•ㅅ•) for a cute face.

Popular text faces

A few favorites from each category:

  • Happy: (◕‿◕) (≧▽≦) ٩(◕‿◕)۶ \(^o^)/
  • Love: (。♥‿♥。) (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ (っ´▽`)っ♡
  • Sad: (╥﹏╥) (ಥ﹏ಥ) (。•́︿•̀。)
  • Angry: ಠ_ಠ (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
  • Shrug & cool: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (⌐■_■) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
  • Animals: ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ (=^・ω・^=) ₍ᐢ•ﻌ•ᐢ₎

When an emoticon looks broken

Kaomoji mix characters from Thai, Kannada, Japanese and combining marks. If the receiving device has no font for one of them, that part shows as a box. Simple faces like (^_^) are the safest choice for older devices.

In apps that use Markdown (Discord, Reddit, Slack), the backslash in ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ can be treated as formatting and an arm disappears. Typing the backslash twice usually fixes it.

FAQ

Do kaomoji work in every app?

They are ordinary Unicode text, so they paste into any app that accepts text. Some characters may show as boxes if the reader’s device lacks a matching font.

Nothing was copied when I tapped.

Your browser may block clipboard access. Long-press the emoticon to select and copy it manually, or use the Compose bar.

Can I combine several emoticons with my own text?

Yes. Choose Compose, tap emoticons and type text in the bottom bar, then press Copy.

Where are my favorites saved?

In this browser only (local storage). They are not uploaded, so they do not sync across devices.

Why does the shrug lose an arm on Discord?

Discord treats the backslash as a formatting escape. Write ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ with two backslashes and it displays correctly.
