Typing symbols with your keyboard

On Windows 11, Win + . opens the emoji panel, which also has Symbols and kaomoji sections. On a Mac, fn/🌐 + E or Edit > Emoji & Symbols opens the Character Viewer; click the expand button to browse and search all characters.

Built-in pickers are fine for common symbols but slow for things like box drawing, enclosed numbers or blank characters. Bookmark this page and keep your favorites one tap away.

Why a symbol shows as a box (□) or question mark

A symbol only displays if the reader’s device has a font that contains it. Modern phones and computers cover most of this list, but newer or rare characters can appear as empty boxes on older devices or in some apps. Check how it looks on the receiving side before using a rare symbol somewhere important.

Some characters such as ❤ ☀ ☎ have both a text and an emoji form, and many devices show the colorful emoji. Variants marked “text style” (like ❤︎) ask for the plain glyph, though apps may still decide differently.

FAQ

Nothing was copied when I tapped a symbol.

Some browsers block clipboard access. If you see “Could not copy”, long-press the symbol to select it, or use the Compose bar and copy from there. Recent Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox copy with a single tap.

My heart symbol turns into a red emoji.

Characters like ❤ (U+2764) can be displayed as emoji. Use ♥ or ♡, or the text-style ❤︎ in the Hearts category, if you want a plain glyph.

How do I make an invisible or blank name?

Copy a character from Blank & invisible, such as the Hangul filler (U+3164) or Braille blank (U+2800). Some services strip or block invisible characters, so try another one if it is rejected.

Can I copy several symbols at once?

Yes. Choose Compose, tap the symbols in order (you can also type text), then press Copy in the bottom bar. The composed text is saved in this browser.

Where are my favorites stored?

Only in this browser’s local storage. Nothing is sent to a server, so favorites do not sync to other devices and are cleared if you clear site data.
