How to convert HEIC to JPG

Choose or drop your HEIC files and conversion starts immediately. Add as many as you like; they are converted one by one and each can be downloaded as soon as it is ready. On phones, use “Share · Save to Photos” to put them straight into your library.

File names stay the same with a new extension (IMG_1234.HEIC → IMG_1234.jpg). Pick JPG (with adjustable quality) or lossless PNG.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the file extension for HEIF images. Since iOS 11, iPhones save photos as HEIC when the camera format is set to High Efficiency, because it takes less space than JPG at similar quality. Many apps, Windows PCs and upload forms still cannot open HEIC, which is why converting to JPG is so common.

Private, on-device conversion

Many converters upload your photos to a server. This one converts inside your browser, so your photos never leave your device. Browsers that can decode HEIC natively (such as recent Safari) convert directly; other browsers download an open-source converter (heic2any) the first time you add a HEIC file. Only the code is downloaded; your photos are never sent anywhere.

To shoot JPG on an iPhone from the start, go to Settings → Camera → Formats → Most Compatible.

Good to know

  • JPG files are usually larger than the HEIC originals. If you need a size limit, drop the HEIC into the Image Compressor to convert and compress in one step.
  • Converted files do not keep EXIF data such as capture date and GPS location.
  • If a HEIC file contains several images (e.g. a burst), only the first one is converted.

FAQ

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Conversion happens entirely in your browser. The only download is the converter code itself, the first time it is needed.

How do I open HEIC files on Windows?

Windows often needs an extra extension to open HEIC. Without installing anything, drop the files here and convert them to JPG, which opens everywhere.

Can I convert many photos at once?

Yes. Select or drop multiple files and they are converted in sequence. Use “Download all” to save them; allow multiple downloads if your browser asks.

Will I lose quality?

JPG is lossy, but at the default quality of 92 the difference is practically invisible. Choose PNG for lossless output.

Does it work on Android?

Yes. Open this page in Chrome or Samsung Internet and pick your HEIC files.
