How to make a QR code
Pick a type — URL, text, Wi-Fi, contact, email or SMS — and start typing. The code updates instantly. If you type a bare domain like "example.com", we add https:// so phone cameras open it as a link.
Download PNG saves a 256–2048 px image; Download SVG saves a vector file that stays sharp at any size, ideal for flyers, banners and business cards. Expand Show the exact encoded content to see precisely what is inside the code.
In browsers that support barcode detection (such as Chrome on many devices), the tool test-reads your code and shows ✓ Scan verified. If the badge turns into a warning after you change colors or add a logo, undo the change. Always test-scan with a phone before printing.
Static QR codes never expire
There are two kinds of QR generators. A static code stores your link or text directly in the pattern. A dynamic code stores the provider’s short link and redirects every scan through their server. Dynamic codes let the provider change the destination and count scans — but if the provider shuts down or your subscription ends, codes you already printed can stop working.
Every code made here is static. The content lives in the pattern itself, so there is no expiry date, and scans never pass through our servers, so nothing is tracked. As long as the destination page exists, your printed code keeps working. The trade-off: you cannot edit a static code after printing, so point it at a page you control if the destination may change.
Your content and logo are processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded.
What each QR type is good for
- URL: websites, online menus, booking pages, surveys and product pages.
- Wi-Fi: guests join your network without typing the password. The code uses the common "WIFI:" format; iPhone’s built-in camera has offered to join such networks since iOS 11. Special characters such as ; , : \ and " are escaped for you.
- Contact (vCard): put it on a business card so people can save your name, phone, email and company in one tap.
- Email and SMS: open a pre-filled email or text message — handy for contests, feedback and support requests.
- Text: short notes, serial numbers or emergency info that should work offline.
Error correction, colors and logos
QR codes carry extra recovery data so they still scan when partly damaged or covered. According to DENSO WAVE, which invented the QR code, levels L, M, Q and H restore roughly 7%, 15%, 25% and 30% of the code, and M is the most common choice. Higher levels make the pattern denser, so only raise it when you add a logo — the tool switches to H automatically when you do.
Stick to a dark code on a light background. The tool warns you about low contrast and about inverted (light-on-dark) codes, which some scanner apps cannot read. DENSO WAVE specifies a quiet zone four modules wide around the code, so the default margin is 4.
Capacity is limited too: the largest version holds up to 7,089 digits, 4,296 alphanumeric characters or 2,953 bytes. Long content makes the pattern dense, so for long text put it on a web page and encode the link instead.
Before you print
"QR Code" is a registered trademark of DENSO WAVE INCORPORATED. DENSO WAVE has stated it will not exercise its patent rights for standard QR codes, so anyone can create and use them freely.
- Print at the final size and test with several phones (iPhone and Android).
- For posters scanned from a distance, make the code large and the content short.
- Glossy lamination, curved surfaces and dark backgrounds reduce scan reliability.
- Use SVG or a large PNG (1024 px or more) for print — never stretch a small image.
FAQ
Is it really free with no expiry?
Yes. We only make static codes, which store your content directly, so there is no expiry, no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how many you create.
Can I change the link after printing?
Not with a static code — the content is the pattern itself. If the destination may change, encode a page you control and update that page instead.
Can I see how many people scanned my code?
No — we don’t track scans. If you need numbers, add campaign parameters (such as UTM tags) to your link and check your own website analytics.
My Wi-Fi QR code doesn’t connect.
Check that the network name and password match your router exactly (case and spaces matter) and that the security type is right. Tick "Hidden network" if your SSID is hidden.
Will a logo break my QR code?
Usually not if error correction is H and the logo covers about 20% of the width. Supported browsers show "Scan verified" so you can check instantly.
PNG or SVG?
PNG is easiest for websites, chats and documents. SVG is best for professional printing and design apps because it scales without losing quality.
